Our Qualifications

We are qualified to meet industry-specific standards, including AS 9100 Rev. C, ISO 9001:2008, Mil. Spec. 45208A, and other military and aerospace specifications. Our team undergoes continued training in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and other relevant procedures.

GD&T is a system that uses engineering to communicate form, size, and orientation. The system helps ensure that manufacturing occurs correctly, which improves the quality of parts. At McAfee Tool & Die we conform to ASME Y14.5-2018.

Understanding Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)

A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a sophisticated device designed to measure the geometry of physical objects by detecting discrete points on their surfaces using a probe. CMMs employ various types of probes, with mechanical and laser sensors being the most common. It’s worth noting that optical and white light sensors also exist.

McAfee Tool & Die’s CMM Information and Capabilities

At McAfee, we utilize a Hexagon Global-S Green 7.10.7 Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipped with a motorized head and a range of probes, including a laser scanning head. Our CMM boasts full programmability from solid models and offers a generous measuring range of 700mm (X) by 1000mm (Y) by 660mm (Z). It can handle parts weighing up to 90kg.

The Purpose of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)

The primary function of a CMM is to measure the geometry of physical objects. This is achieved by precisely sensing discrete points on the object’s surface using a probe. By capturing this data. CMMs enable accurate dimensional analysis and object inspection.

Reverse Engineering with CMM

In addition to their traditional applications, CMMs can also be utilized for reverse engineering. This involves recreating a part for which no drawing or specifications exist. By capturing precise measurements of the object, a CMM enables the recreation and production of the part.

Our CMM laser scanner has a form error of less than 8 microns (µm) and can capture hundreds of thousands of points per second. With this, we can capture accurate 3D scans of parts that can be used to create solid models when CAD data or drawings are not available.
